One of the known and major gaps within the BCM industry is a training accreditation that represents the needs of the practicing BCM community.
BCM Solutions has addressed this gap by establishing a formal arrangement with The Institute of Risk Management by developing an accredited training course in BCM Fundamentals. The aim of the course is to establish competencies for independent BCM certification.
Our training approach is differentiated by describing not only what to do, but also how to do it, based on proven, pragmatic methods and tools. We aim to demystify the hype and simplify the complexity of continuity planning. Over the duration of the course, students develop practical experience in using the toolkit provided to work through a series of case studies.
Although we acknowledge most of the fundamentals of other Business Continuity organisations principles and guidelines, our unique approach to BCM planning introduces a paradigm shift that increases the efficiency of the planning process and results in higher quality and more consistent results. An overview of the agenda follows:
Day One
- Introductions and Goal Setting
- The Basics – Framework, Policy and Methodology
- Impact Assessment – Processes and Resources
- Criticality and Prioritisation
- Case Study One
- Assessing Vulnerability
Day Two
- BC/DR Recovery Strategies – a paradigm shift
- Recovery Strategies (continued)
- Plans (Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management) – Structure and Contents
- Case Study Two
- Training and Awareness
Day Three
- Testing - Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Crisis Management
- Testing (continued)
- Reporting
- Case Study Three
- BCM Governance
Certification
On successful completion of the course material, the student can opt to proceed to certification, which requires the following additional activities:
- Passing an online examination of the study material (approximately 3 hours duration)
- Successful completion of a written case study (approximately 6 hours duration)
- Successful completion of reference validations
Also, the BCMS designation will also automatically qualify you for the Institute of Risk Management’s designation of Specialist in Risk Management (SIRM) – should you so desire. The SIRM designation usually requires completion of formal coursework and an examination(typically a Masters Degree), however, the IRM will waive these requirements if you have a BCMS designation (refer to the IRM for further information –
